At a time when health challenges increasingly transcend borders, the World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2027 in Hong Kong will offer an important opportunity to bring regional perspectives and expertise into the global health dialogue. Under the theme ‘Health Across Borders,’ it will connect leaders and changemakers across sectors, disciplines and regions to strengthen collaboration and advance solutions for better health for all.

Professor Dr Axel R. Pries

  • President of the World Health Summit

Dear World Health Summit community,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Hong Kong, China, for the World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2027, taking place from May 7 to 9. I am delighted that the LKS Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) is hosting this year's Regional Meeting and providing a platform for dialogue across the global health community as a valued member of the WHS Academic Alliance.

HKUMed has placed a fitting theme at the heart of these days: 'Health across Borders.' Health everywhere is under growing pressure, numerous crises stress systems, widen inequities, and expose vulnerabilities. These challenges compound one another and call for collective action and shared responsibility. They demand that we bridge borders of every kind: between countries, between sectors, and between disciplines. That is what makes this Regional Meeting and its theme both important and timely.

The meeting will explore ways to reduce health inequalities, harness the potential of emerging technologies, advance scientific innovation, strengthen partnerships, and promote policies that recognize health as a shared responsibility across societies. Addressing these challenges requires the kind of exchange that WHS Regional Meetings provide, where regional expertise and perspectives shape global agendas and turn shared challenges into shared solutions.

As an integral part of the World Health Summit platform, WHS Regional Meetings contribute to ongoing global dialogues that continue throughout the year and are reflected at the annual World Health Summit in Berlin. Together, regional priorities are connected with global decision-making, ensuring that critical health issues are prioritized and addressed through continuous exchange across regions, sectors, and disciplines.

I warmly invite you to join the discussions, to build new partnerships, and to drive progress toward a healthier, more resilient world. I look forward to welcoming you in Hong Kong.
